Travelling from Barry Dock for Southampton with a cargo of 3600 tons of coal the Redesmere was torpedoed by UB-40. She sank in 90 seconds taking 19 of her 25 crew with her.

The wreck lies half over to port. Her boilers, and donkey boiler stand vertically. Her stern gun, propeller and spare propeller can still be seen.
