Travelling from Hamburg for Runcorn with a cargo of potash the Poole Fisher foundered in heavy seas. Only 2 of her 15 crew survived, clutching onto a baulk of timber in just their T-shirts. They were rescued by the Lee on Solent Royal Navy search and rescue helicopter.

The wreck now lies upside down, with her bows broken.
