On the 4th August 1899, when on route from Cardiff for Cronstadt (a Russian port city located on Kotlin Island, 19 miles west of Saint Petersburg ) carrying a cargo of 2,300 tons of coal for the Russian Government, she collided in fog with HMS Surprise and sank. All 24 crew were saved.
