Travelling from Middlesbrough for St Malo with a cargo of pig iron the Britannia was torpedoed by UC-75, although this is not confirmed as all 23 crew died in the sinking. The admiralty had no information, but they had noted considerable submarine activity.

The wreck is not proved to be the Britannia, but fits the size and description of the Britannia. The wreck lies on its port side. Some of the propeller blades have broken off.
